Healthcare for all Louisianans
We must reform our broken health care system.
Healthcare should not be a privilege for the rich only, but a right for all Americans. Every single American should have access to affordable, effective health care coverage. No one should ever have to take out a second mortgage just because a loved one gets sick.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is not perfect, but it has provided affordable coverage to more than 500,000 people in Louisiana who were previously uninsured. We need to protect these gains and build on them to help the millions of people whose plans remain insufficient.
In Congress, I will work to improve the access and affordability of health care under the ACA, and I will oppose any proposal that does not protect Louisianans from higher premiums, out-of-pocket expenses, or obstacles to coverage due to pre-existing conditions. I will oppose any cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.
The skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs is one of the most critical issues facing people in Louisiana and across America, and we need to see real action to lower drug prices. I support the government taking action to lower the costs of prescription drugs, including allowing Medicare to use its bargaining power to negotiate prices with drug companies, and permitting the safe importation of affordable prescription drugs from places such as Canada.
We must achieve universal health care coverage. I support expanding our existing Medicare system to provide health insurance to every American through "Medicare For All."
